Virgil Moore, II

"Art and Life Are Not Two Different Things." ~ Mendelssohn

Born in Raleigh, NC and raised in Lynchburg, VA, Virgil's love for the violin began while a student in the Lynchburg City Schools.  At an early age, Virgil was keenly aware that he wanted to pursue music as a profession.  

In addition to participating in school orchestras, Virgil was also a member of the James String Quartet, Randolph College Orchestra, University of Lynchburg Orchestra, and the Lynchburg Symphony Youth Orchestra. He currently performs with the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra and the orchestras and chamber groups at the McDuffie Center.   

Virgil has won several competitions.  Most recently, in 2022, he won the Townsend School of Music Concerto competition and gave a rousing performance of the Korngold Violin Concerto in D major. 

Some of his favorite summer opportunities include attending the Aspen Music Festival, Meadowmount School of Music, Sphinx Performance Academy, Colorado College Summer Music Festival, Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival, Wintergreen Summer Music Festival. 

 

In 2021, Virgil received the Congressional Black Caucus Spouses Performing Arts Scholarship.  

Virgil is a senior at the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer University.
